By Oby Ndukwe

It is obvious now that Rivers state was actually the flash point for the 2015 General elections as much as Lagos was. But I must say that Lagos people were luckier cos the money doled out by the President to take down the city of the Jagbadan of Nigerian politics, Ahmed Tinubu, somehow went round the people including the defunct OPC! But that of Amaechi's Rivers did not get to the people but it went to the militants, the Police, Army and the Navy.

The plot to destabilize the unarmed governor and his people was more coordinated more than even the fight against Boko Haram insurgency. All artillery was employed here to stop Amaechi and his APC at all cost. No wonder the early recruitment of the former ex-militants as some where even handed over the tickets of the PDP to contest elections into the State House of Assembly. What Amaechi discarded upon his coming into power in 2007, the Wike-led PDP has assembled. No wonder it is said that one man's meat is another man's poison! Chaii!

Since 2003, the state and indeed the Niger Delta region has become synonymous with violence through youths engaged in arms struggle, cultism, street gangsterism, bunkering activities, piracy, kidnapping and hostage-taking as well as armed robbery.

From 2003 to 2007, the region was a theatre of blood with the proliferation of light and heavy arms. It was alleged that the politicians who armed youths for elections were unable to recover these arms from them. It was also difficult to block. The source of supply of these arms as some of the youths had become gun runners. But Amaechi was able to chase them out from the streets and creeks of Port Harcourt and its environments.

His war against crime and criminality was eventually backed up by a declaration of amnesty for all those who were prepared to drop their arms.

Though late President Umaru Musa Yaradua succeeded in stopping them, but the politicians know better. The billions of dollars paid through the Amnesty Office headed by Kingsley Kuku has been justified by the new weaponry the Niger Delta youths have amassed coupled with their renewed arrogance and display of wealth and power through the barrel.

Those not sure of earning the support of majority of the people at the polls did not waste time in engaging the services of these battle-ready youths while the security agencies pretended not to know. Could it be that the intelligence of the Department of Security Services, DSS, the entire Service Chiefs and the NSA all failed?

Ok! I just remembered that the reason for postponing the elections was because our dear security apparatus was engaged in flushing out the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents in three out of thirty-six states. Abeg make una forgive me.
Seriously speaking, we are back to the dark days of blood-letting in Rivers state. Those who were on an eight-year sabbatical leave had to make a quick return in order to form the new government. The new APC in the state, unfortunately or fortunately is led by a leader who seems not to be good in political history rather he has replaced it with some kind of religiosity where it is an abomination for any government official to engage in violence.

For Amaechi, if he is still what I knew him to be, there is zero tolerance for arms in his government. Don't mind those who always want to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. The leader of the Governors' Forum who brought the crack in President Jonathan's grip of the governors believed in changing the way things used to be. Some accuse him of benefiting from a corrupt and violent system, and now, he wants to end the old ways. But he forgot that there is a cabal-in-waiting whose window of opportunity to haunt down him and his so-called 'Change' gospel down was through his broken relationship with Jonathan, whose wife, like any other, apart from Abigail in the Bible, would have done same-come to the rescue of her dear Goodluck without caring about the consequences of her actions and inaction.

Patience Jonathan hails from Okrika, the hometown of the militant leader, Ateke Tom. She knows the secrets and how to get the boys back, afterall, most of them have been wining and dining with them in Aso Rock for 6 years.

Though what she could not do for her husband, she has done for her 'adopted' son, Wike. Hmmmm! Whets the interest sef? Any way, Rivers state has a deep pocket; don't mind Amaechi who refused to share the money with the cabal in the state.
Despite the global war against terror, the desperate politicians don't seem to give a damn as they have once again taken a shot at power through the barrel rather than through the ballot.

Amaechi's mantra for real voting instead of manipulation of results fell on deaf ears. He probably over estimated his international and national popularity. After all a prophet is not known in home. He also forgot the international community was more concerned with the success of the elections irrespective of how the victory comes.

I knew it and I warned that the position of the American Government and the EU is not the best. They were not in support of any protests and violence; rather, let winners emerge by hook or by crook, chikena! It doesn't matter how anyone wins. All that is important is if any party loses, there must no be violence.  But where a party wins through extreme violent means, there shouldn't be a protest. Any way, I don't blame them cos the Holy Bible tells us that,"since the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of God suffereth violence and only the violent take it by force". So, they have taken the one that suits them from the Bible.

But the truth is that, not even our saintly Rev. Fr. Mbaka or the spiritual leader of the Christian Church Pope John Paul II would win an election here without the guns. I know that Amaechi has not also attained that height of spirituality, though he is trying, so why did he think it would be easy to win elections here without engaging the armed militia and the security agencies who had give him the assurance that there would be adequate security for the elections.

But like zombie, they made a U-turn when they received a distress call from Mama Peace who was said to have told her husband she would die in Port Harcourt if Amaechi's candidate, Dakuku Peterside was not stopped. Chaii!

Within twenty four hours, the same security agencies which had ransacked and harassed Wike's boys and even arrested some of them, made a turn around to obey the last order, after all, Jonathan is still the C-in-C with full powers until May 29.

In all shaa, I commend Wike for his excellence in rigging and thuggery after all, who are the powers behind him? They say tell me your friends and I will tell you who you. He has made history from House by in Govt. House to Oga at the Top.  Mbok!
