LEGACY GROUP

We have noticed the insult, name calling and lies the government of Nyesom Wike and his people are pouring on the former governor of our beloved state, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi despite the good works he did in Rivers. We understand that they want to use his popularity to show themselves to the people that they are working, but they should do that without insulting him and destroying all the good works he did for the masses of Rivers. Wike and his people should understand that the citizens of this state are very civilized, knowledgeable and we do not kill our people because of politics. The politics of live and let live which Amaechi preached should be copied by Wike and let that guide him always. Wike must know that politics is not Cowboys movie in which a weak man becomes leader by simply killing the boss. Politics is for the provision of good roads, electricity, health, education to the people, etc.

The one month old government of Nyesom Wike has been shouting “I will probe Amaechi” to deceive the people while Wike is spending the money of Rivers without control. The government of Wike has spent over N60bn in just one month on nothing. Can any Rivers man tell us where this big amount of N60bn was spent? There is no project no matter how small to show how this big money was spent. This money will reduce poverty of 600,000 rural women if they are given N100,000.00 each to start small businesses. He went to the State House of Assembly and asked for loan of N30bn and they approved it for him without asking what he will use the money for. This is shocking considering that the government is not more than one month in office. The question is whether the N60bn was used to settle election sponsors. Time will tell.

It is on record that the Amaechi government left the sum of N7.5bn in the bank before handing over to Nyesom Wike and the state received over N23bn as allocation from the Federal government. The big question the people of the state are asking is “Where is the money?” Meanwhile, he is still owing workers in the state. What manner of leadership is this? Rivers people must demand from him how he squandered this huge sum in just one month.

It is important for the people to remember that the Amaechi government he is busy insulting changed the infrastructure in the state. The man removed his shirt from the first day he became governor and faced the bad roads in the state. He did not take a huge loan of N30bn and spent N60bn to do that.  He built about 314 standard roads and highways. One good thing about Amaechi's government was that he did not owe contractors. He used the Advance Payment Guarantee (APG) in all projects and this ensured that only contractors that worked were paid. A few examples of the road projects will help us:

One fact known by everybody is that governing a state is a process that does not end and this is why every American President or British Prime Minister will always finish the good works of his predecessor. This is what made those advanced countries great. Rivers state cannot be different from others. The Amaechi government was champion of good projects for the people. However, no matter the commitment of a good leader like Amaechi, he cannot finish all the projects he started.

In all, the length of roads embarked upon by the Amaechi administration will come to about 1400 km. Of this figure, about 900km has been concluded. And that is almost the equivalent of the road distance between Lagos and Maiduguri and represents 64.2% of the total roads he constructed.
Furthermore, another 350km of the roads have reached over 90% completion and monies paid for their conclusions. This represents 25% of the total roads started by the Amaechi administration. In essence, the Rotimi Chibuike government completed and disbursed funds in full on 89.2% of the road projects it started since 2007.

Some claim they cannot find evidence of what the Amaechi administration did in the road sector even though Port Harcourt and a greater part of the state have been described by many as one huge construction site. The saying that “seen is believing” is enough to convince the people of what he did.

Does it really make sense for anyone to deny what can be verified just to score cheap political point?  Can the Wike administration given the way it is going ever do better or even match the wonderful achievements of the Amaechi years in the construction of roads in the state?

Our sincere prayer is that he does because the most important thing to us is the development and progress of River state. That is our sole interest. In any case, we are happy that some commonsense is beginning to dawn on the governor despite the patronizing chants and rowdiness of his team members.  We hear he has concluded plans to commission completed and near completed projects conceived and executed by the Amaechi administration which he has been demonizing.
Giving a little credit to his former boss will not diminish him as governor of Rivers state. Perhaps he should concentrate his energy on completing the remainders of Amaechi projects instead of insulting him on daily basis.
