The Present feud between Chief Nyesom Wike and his former Boss, Rt. Hon
Chibuike Amaechi is nothing but a resultant effect of the latter's dogmatic
attachment to his 'words, and the former's inordinate ambition. Truth be told,
both men are case studies in political and social cogitation, howbeit, one is a
positive phenomenon, while the other is a negative force.
Former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, before,
upon, and after assuming office in 2007, made a solemn promise to the people of
Rivers State. Amaechi clearly stated that he would not want to handover power
to another person from the same Senatorial District as himself, not even an
Ikwerre brother. He hinged this pan-Rivers commitment solely on the argument
that since former Governor Peter Odilli - Rivers East Senatorial District, and
he (Amaechi) - Rivers East Senatorial District, that it would not be morally
justified if another person from the same aforementioned Senatorial District to
take over power from him, how much more another Ikwerre man.
Trust Amaechi, in order to keep his pledge, he began a political
recruitment of possible candidates that will be fit for the Governorship job
after him. Two choices were always there before him, one was Dr. Dakuku Adol
Peterside, and the other was Distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abei, both from
Rivers South-East Senatorial District. These two people were good to go.
But unknown to Amaechi, one man was secretly nursing the gubernatorial
ambition in his mind. Nyesom Wike's desperate ambition for the Rivers State
Governorship seat can be traced back to his years as Chief of Staff to former
Governor Amaechi. From the moment that he tried to collapse the Ikwerre Youth
Movement (a political brain child of Amaechi), to the strangulation of other
political movements in the state, and the blockage of any form of empowerment
that did not pass through his table for an autocratic approval, many political
participants and onlookers began to suspect foul play along the line.
The political fiddle initiated by Wike in Rivers State is one that took
so many prisoners along. Not a few political allies of Amaechi were permanently
sidelined from benefiting from the proceeds of Amaechi's political struggle,
their years of unlinching service and loyalty to Amaechi became a worthless
venture.
Nyesom Wike became a secret reporter to Patience Jonathan, Wife of
former president Goodluck Jonathan. Little did Amaechi know that all his
political moves et al, were being reported live to her 'Excellency. If there
was ever a lacuna in the definition of the word 'mole, Wike has supplied all
the necessary ingredient that is needed to make the word the perfect definition
of a ruthless spy. So many Rivers Politicians became victims of Wike's Machiavellian
journey to Aso Rock. Wike's quest for absolute power, hence, his vehementous
refusal for anybody to rise under him, forced Amaechi to subtly send him on a
political exile from Rivers State. Wike's malicious overtures in Rivers State,
was one of the reasons why Amaechi left PDP, thereby drawing the battle line
between him and Jonathan and wife.
The truth is that many people in Nigeria do not know that Wike's
problem with Amaechi is not as complex as it appears. Wike can and will take
Amaechi to the slaughter house, simply because Ameachi refused to support his
unpopular governorship ambition, and that is all there is to this unfolding
drama.
